Curtin Archaeological Consulting, Inc. is seeking field assistants for the excavation of an Archaic period chert workshop and campsite in the Saratoga Springs area.  The excavation has started and will run through June 9, 2023.  The rate of pay is $18.00-$20.00, depending upon education and experience. Students ending the spring semester should apply since we are filling several positions as people become available. You will need to be living in the Saratoga-Capital District-Lake George region and able to drive to the project site.

The excavation project is focused on learning more about the Late Archaic period occupation of a hilltop where campsites were established circa 5,000 years ago to prospect for chert and manufacture stone tools.  The chert workshop is related to the local availability of Snake Hill chert, which we have recovered on site as nodules in the ground and in a mine pit.  Artifacts recovered so far include chipped stone cores, bifaces, projectile points, scrapers and gravers plus rough stone artifacts including choppers, hammerstones, anvilstones, and digging or mining tools.

Please email resumes to jobs@curtinarchaeology.com.  If you have recently submitted a resume, please email us with your availability.  If you have questions, please call Dr. Ed Curtin at (518) 884-7105.
